I had high hopes going in from everyone saying how good it was, and I left disappointed. It was slow and boring and some of the acting was terrible, especially by Keanu Reeves. The lighting was good and I did like the music, but even those things couldn't keep me invested. The best part was the ending, but by that point, I had already lost interest. I just don't understand the hype. 3/10

I thought it's very artsy well done and colorful. Elle Fanning is just amazing! 10/10

It's alright, I'd say it's a nice seven if I was giving it a rating for whatever reason in a post. It's slow to get where it's going, but it's got a nice sense of style while getting there, and the actors are good in their parts. What I found to be disappointing was the ending, as it goes full chickenshít when it gets to where it's going. Unless you're talking about the very very end when you say the ending, the on the job bitthat part is nice and has a really cool shot. If it was me I would have gotten to the horror bit sometime around the middle, and I would have shown everything we didn't see here for whatever reason. Likewise the movie could have just been longer and shown everything, if it was longer because we saw what it skipped I probably wouldn't have minded it being longer. As it is, because it doesn't show anything really, it feels like it takes too much time getting to where it's going.
It reminded me of a few different movies, but one I thought of the most was Excision, which while not as composed when it comes to shots, I found far better. -

Excision is excellent, with a great performance by the actress and a very talented director - his follow up wasn't so hot.
I found Neon wasn't quite as good, but it reminded me more of Maps To The Stars. -

I thought it was alright. The visuals are glamorous but Refn should have invested a little more on the dialogue because "Were you going to say that what matters is what is on the inside?", "That's exactly what I was going to say!" really?
I don't think there's much of a hype, though. The film received mixed reviews both from public and critics. -

Weaker effort from Refn, disappointing a good way to sum it up.
After
Only God Forgives
I was expecting some f#cked up sh#t but unfortunately did not deliver. As everyone else has said some great neony visuals and synth sh#t going on but little else on offer. Where's the gore? Missed opportunity in the empty swimming pool.
5/10

This was so much better than Only God Forgives. This was like that movie but without all the unintentionally hilarious dialogue and all the laughable heavy handed symbolism. Only God Forgives is so stupid it's almost hard to tell if it's meant to be serious in its symbolism, heavy handed hand symbolism sure seems like a joke, but I'm pretty sure it isn't meant to be. Likewise I'm pretty sure some of the dialogue is meant to be funny, but it's not funny because it's actually funny, it's just so bad and stupid.

I don't remember one line of dialog, I just remember the gnarly aftermath of some prostitute-killer dude's head getting caved in, dudes getting arms chopped off, mass shootings, dude getting spikes or needles or something rammed into him etc.
Symbolism? Dialog? Heavy handed? Huh? What? Me no understandy.

You don't need to remember the lines, it's not like they're good lines, you only need to remember that they're laughably bad.
That stuff you're talking about though, that was really all that memorial, it was like less interesting Oldboy and Ichi the Killer because Refn has none of the flair and flamboyance of Park and Miike.
The symbolism isn't smart symbolism. You really in trouble if you no pick up on it in movie Only God Forgives. -

You're not getting it simbo, I don't care in any way shape or form about dialog or symbolism (whether "attempted" well or poorly by the director or not) I care about people getting killed and mutilated and that's why I enjoyed Only God Forgives and not The Neon Demon.
Yes Ichi and Oldboy are two of my favorites as are Park and Miike as directors.

Yes, but I'm saying the shít you're talking about in Only God Forgives is fûcking boring. The restaurant shootout sucks, the fight scene sucks, the needle thing is about the only thing that's done well but it also just makes me think I should be watching one of those two far better movies. You're talking about Only God Forgives like you see a bunch of stuff but The Neon Demon doesn't go there, Only God Forgives doesn't go there either, it probably doesn't go there even harder than Neon Demon. It's not like the shootouts in the movie are like some bloody Django Unchained shít where people explode with blood and lay screaming on the ground; they're pretty bloodless from what I remember of the movie.
Nobody should care about the dialogue or symbolism in the movie, they're both terrible and stupid. But they're also so terrible that they're what makes the movie amusing, because it's just so damn funny.
