Been a while since last time and with the new movie out now and it being the Halloween season, why not
Rank all four Phantasm movies in your order of preference including the most recent and final chapter, Ravager.
My rank:
Phantasm II
Phantasm
Phantasm IV: Oblivion
Phantasm III: Lord Of The Dead
Phantasm V: Ravager
The original is a classic but I've always been partial to the second. Just builds upon the concept so much and takes it to new heights. 3 and 4 were still solid sequels that built upon the mythos nicely, but while I enjoyed Ravager to a degree I got to sadly agree with the consensus that it's the weakest. The extremely cheap, low-rent quality is really off-putting and by the end it's hard not to feel gypped. 18 long years of waiting and that was the best they could do?
Still, I adore the series and it's always perfect Halloween-time viewing. The mix of surreal, mindbending Horror and Sci-Fi with some high-octane Action in most of the sequels is still unmatched for me. -

I liked Ravager. It had heart to the point it was touching.
I like all the films though.
Ravager is as DIY as the original two & endearing.
Ravager is not fan-service in the way i expected it to be & yea the cgi is sh!t.
Ravager does in the tradition of true horror films made for true horror fans. It has some ambition & works within its limitations to make something fun.
They could have gone no CGI at all but what would be the point when times have changed. Ash vs Evil Dead everyone is loving but CG required. The Thing remake (funnily went all practical but suits overruled & fooked it up) google the effects though & see it was the suits that made it worse & more pointless than expected.
How large was "Ravagers" budget? If you want great CGI like that fooking Dragon from that Hobbit film who is paying for that? Even then why do most mainstream films look sh!t?
