Which films have truly great samurai sword fights? Like impressive sword fights you rewind and watch again and again? No live action video games or anime by the way.

The Yakuza (1974 I think) is the best kenjutsu I've seen in a Western film, and better than most Japanese films. Takakura Ken takes on a group of gangsters in close-quarters with swords at the end, and it's great.

I couldn't find the end fight of the movie but thanks for the recommendation.

Trust me, just buy the DVD. If you're into kenjutsu or kendo, it's worth it. It's also a fantastic movie.

I didn't watch many samurai movies, but I liked the fight in "The seven samurai"
            "The sleeper must awaken!"

I've always thought that the final fight in Sanjuro was terrific.

Masaki Kobayashis, Seppuku has some nice fights which aren't flashy in the Hong Kong type of way. The movie isn't a martial arts movie anyway but it is a samurai movie. I would highly recomend Seppuku as it may very well be the greatest samurai movie ever made.
