OK is not an abbreviation–it's a separate spelling and is in fact the ORIGINAL spelling, so it definitely fits the parameters. OK came first, with "okay" later forming as a variant of that, and the original term was derived from an intentional misspelling of "all correct." Both have been accepted in English as variant spellings of the word since the 1800s, along with a third variant, "O.K." All are accepted usage in American English, and none of them are abbreviations.
