I read your Thread and I was actually still into the Movie even when the story moved and took place in Vietnam.
I really enjoyed the last 20 minutes of it when they encountered the sniper.

It is. The actors in it, Tom Berenger & Willem Defoe in particular, are very good. That's what sets it apart from Full Metal Jacket etc.

I enjoyed it, but it was a somewhat sanitized depiction of Nam. I guess it was right for
TV audiences, though. It's available on DVD now.
