there. this is true for especially horses in older ones.
i just can't overlook it and it's hard to watch and always makes me sick, so i'd rather not watch them.
i do have some favs tho, such as
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
(2007),
Meek's Cutoff
(2010),
The Rider
(2017),
Dances with Wolves
(1990),
Dead Man
(1993),
Maverick
(1994) and
Bad Girls
(1994), and for older ones,
The Ox-Bow Incident
(1943),
My Darling Clementine
(1946),
Duel in the Sun
(1946),
Johnny Guitar
(1954),
The Searchers
(1956),
Rio Bravo
(1959),
The Misfits
(1961),
Once Upon a Time in the West
(1968),
El Topo
(1970),
McCabe & Mrs. Miller
(1971) and others i'm forgetting now.

animals actually being harmed during the making. i know
The Misfits
is problematic on that account, too, and i can't excuse it. i actually had to look away during the scenes when they were hunting the horses but at least it was written in the way that the characters felt remorse in the end for what they did to these horses.

Unfortunately not much care was considered for the animals during that time. Not much has improved although they claim no animals were hurt. People haven’t changed much. To some of these cretins animals are disposable. It’s our job as humans to take care of these animals. More serious stringent laws need to be put into effect over animal abuse.
