A man on a white horse is pursued by another man on a brown horse.
Man on a White Horse
goes into a rocky place and is shot by Indians.
MoaWH
takes his saddle-bag and throws it into a small cave or crevice. His horse falls when he gets shot. He kills one of his two Indian attackers.
Man on a Brown Horse
shoots and kills his other attacker just before

was going to be stabbed.

puts

on his horse to take back to be hanged. They come to a river where there's a stagecoach on a floating platform (small barge) to be taken across the river to the other side.
Once they cross to the other side of the river there's a way-station and inn.

is a sheriff and
MoaWH
is his prisoner who he accuses of murder (and robbery). Both join the passengers from the stagecoach including an army colonel who has fought in the wars against the Indians. The inn is run by a dark-haired woman (her husband is away) and some other guy. She is glad that the stagecoach has a woman since she hasn't seen another woman in over three months.

is put on a bed in one of the rooms.
