Yes. White walker having an ice candy. Did you manage to finish the books? Remember you were planning to give them a try.

The books are the best thing that is happening to my life right now. Read the first one in Aug and September. began the second one a week ago and I am 20% through. Today and and tomorrow I will give 4 hours to it. Two questions:

            1. Do you think it is OK pace to complete each book in 2 months?
            2. I felt that second book is better then the first. I enjoyed the first one a lot and the second one seems to be even better. So does the quality of books improve all through?

Hmm 2 months for a book seems like a lot of time to me personally. When I read a book I just go through it completely as soon as possible otherwise it will be hard to get back to it. I won't watch movies or will be on internet when am in midst of a book. So each to his own.
Have read those 5 books twice. First time after watching season 4 and just to find out what happens next. Wasn't really paying attention to all the subtleties and intricacies. So then, I though The Feast for Crows was a real drag coz I wanted to read about Arya and Danereys the most but they were hardly in that book.
But on my second read I wasn't in it for just for the plot conclusion and fact finding so I enjoyed the reading process itself. Googled the meaning of the words I didn't know and the minor character names to pace them in the plot and family tree etc. For ex I didn't know whats an oar, gargoyle, battlements, portcullis etc so googled them and placed them in setting unlike the first reading. Wiki of ice and fire was also a big help when it comes to linking the characters across 5 books.
I picked up on so many things, some subtle some obvious which I had missed on my first reading.
So, coz of that I really liked The Feast for Crows the second time. In fact I liked it most. It just flows smoothly from page to page and from chapter to chapter and is very high on emotional quotient. But on the other hand I found extremely hard and frustrating to read though Dance of Dragons coz of ton of new characters which are introduced in the slavery bay and it's own political map. Danereys almost takes a back seat there.

Thanks. Yeah, it seems a good strategy to find out the meaning of the words though I admit I relied on figurative meaning most of the time. The first book I read on PDF which might have slowed me down a lot. This book I am reading on hard copy so it seems to be going much faster. You are right though I should try to finish quickly. I used to read at your pace when I read Dickens books but had left reading books for more than 12 or 13 years before I started ASOIF.
I am liking Arya's journey in the second book more than others but I also like Ser Davos.

Audio books narrated by Roy Dottie are also good. I switched between audio book, ebook and a physical copy on convenience.
Arya meets someone from her past when she is travelling with Yoren in the woods. It is only implied. See if you pick up on it. Just to see if you are paying attention or skimming through the book.

Let me see if I can find out. Two instances when I felt some sort of implied connection till now. (I have completed till 175 pages of second book). One if jaqen is her Syrio and two if wolves let her go in the wood because they recognised her Stark blood. Might be that thing that you are referring to happens later

Neither. A song of Ice and Fire series is the only fiction I have ever read.

Yeah, had a bit of intuition there but thought it was more of a general relationship of wolves and Starks. Will read again.

                              1. Buddy, it takes less than a week to go through a book. They're page turners.
                              2. There is a dip in quality as you go along. The first and second are definitely the best.

Yeah, I have been a bit slow with the books so far. Sometimes try to watch videos of the scenes depicted in book. Will increase the pace now.

Have you read the Lyonesse trilogy? It is always listed as an inspiration by all these gritty fantasy authors and is very very good.
