In Rogue One it is implied that the Death Star can destroy capital ships, where as in the novelazation of Return of the Jedi, states that the original could not target capital ships, because the targeting computers where not capable of doing so.

This is a plot difference and not a goof if the screenplay writer intentionally made the change.
