    Bentley’s Wife — 4 months ago(November 15, 2025 04:38 AM)

Only Batman Begins has proper story structure and resembles an actual movie. The final act of the Dark Knight is a sloppy mess.
Don’t even get me started with Dark Knight rises which is a hot mess. The only 2 watchable movies Nolan ever made was Batman Begins and Insomnia (both were written by someone else, Nolan is a terrible writer).

Francis Ford Coppola is a much better pick.
Michael Cinema is still somehow a legend?
How about this NEW ONE: ROB REINER
Hasn't had a hit film since Sleepless in Seattle. Mr Misery…shame on you Rob!

        Good director. Total meathead otherwise.

Reiner didn’t direct Sleepless In Seattle.

Well there you go…you just dropped the fact bomb on me.
            Good for you.
I always thought he was the director.

He directed When Harry Met Sally which was written by Nora Ephron, who wrote and directed Seattle, and obviously Meg Ryan tagged along.
I only saw Seattle recently and was quite underwhelmed. I think Reiner had a lot of writing input on Harry Met Sally.

                Quentin Tarantino. He's a total rip-off artist.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.

Agreed. Polanski's early films (before and up to The Tenant) are good-to-great, but his later works are spotty at best.

                      Paul P. Powell — 4 months ago(November 16, 2025 12:13 AM)

Polanski? No way. He merely directed the greatest detective film of all time.
                      Obviously and certainly over-rated:

                      1. James ('Piranha II') Cameron
                      2. Quentin ('copycat') Tarantino. Stole every idea he ever had, from classic cinema archives.

Polanski knew how to get your interest and hold it. Not overrated at all.

                          Nolan. Only intermittently good.
