The Cars were on day 1 - 2 different vids, but both live clips.
Billy Idol didn't get there til late 1982 (White Wedding)
There was a vid for 'Hot In The City' but for some reason it wasn't shown on MTV.

First of all don't get your panties in real tight knots over what is just an example.
Second, I am sure that at some point when they were showing vids Cars and Idol were seen on the same day at least once at some point. -

lol…it's all good.
I just thought you might like to know when Idol made his debut on MTV.
I'm sure there were days they were played together.
'Hot In The City' got much radio play in the day, so not sure why MTV didn't promote it.
He also was on Solid Gold in that year performing his cover of 'Mony Mony' yet had no video for it.
Even 'Dancing With Myself' didn't get a vid til a couple years after it was released.
But when they finally did show Billy Idol on MTV, he was given more airplay than most artists at that time.

"But when they finally did show Billy Idol on MTV, he was given more airplay than most artists at that time."
He and Martha Quinn, one of the first VeeJays, dated so that might have had something to do with it. -

It was a great time. It was probably around 1983 until we finally got cable.
We still had the wired remote haha!
The first video I ever saw was Duran Duran "hungry like the wolf"
I eventually saw them at a free concert in 2000 and was very impressed. They gave an amazing show.

MTV gave the Canadian acts much airplay…but in 1981, it was probably Loverboy that was getting airtime.
The vids you posted came a year or two later.
Except for 'Gloria', which most likely never got shown on MTV…that was probably a bit too Pop-ish for their Rock and alternative Rock format.
They
did
show 'Self-Control' though.
U2's 'Gloria' was more MTV's style.
Eurhythmics in 1981 would be seen this way -
And as the original band members of The Tourists
Are you okay?
