He makes lame movies because he's too powerful, but he makes a great song topic because he's too powerful. His abilities make for metaphoric and allegorical poetic themes.

Superman is a copyrighted character.
Whether the lyrics of the songs songs are talking about the literal Superman and his world, or referencing him as a metaphor, they're alluding to that established character and his universe.
If Hound Dog were called Lassie, and it went, "you ain't nothing but a Lassie.." it'd be a song about Lassie.
The lyrics of the songs are more or less irrelevant and subjective when dealing with trademarked characters.
Either way, semantics, semantics.
