    Glad you liked it, NZer.
Is this one of the few videos you've seen of his earlier work?

Yes. Have you seen him in the Black and White Night video where he was playing with Roy Orbison and a heap of other talented people?

Yes, "Black & White Night"…I saw it on PBS one night. That's excellent performance and was loaded with talent… J.D. Souther, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, James Burton, Tom Waits, and many others.
They performed "Pretty Woman" as the finale…

I've got the whole concert. Roy always sang effortlessly, making those high notes look so easy!

Interesting group of talented micisians there.
Trivia question for you: what songs did JD Souther and Jackson Browne write that became hits for the Eagles. No cheating!

I only know of two… Browne co-wrote "Take it Easy" with Frey.
Souther was involved in writing "Heartache Tonight."
                Were there others?

Yes on Jackson. Jackson Browne even performs Take it Easy when he tours.
Souther co-wrote a lot of the Eagles song including Best of my Love and New Kid in Town. In fact when Henley was struggling to find his next hit, he called Souther up and Souther gave him the Best of my Love melody.
But “How Long” (their early 2000s single) is a written by Souther in its entirety and is a cover by the Eagles, originally performed by Souther.
Side note: Don Felder was a virtuoso guitar player and instrumental to the Eagles sound after Bernie Leadon left. Felder wrote the music for hotel California, and it was amazing seeing him and Joe Walsh perform that solo together like dueling banjos.

I'm in total agreement on Felder… he added so much with his amazing, soulful fills. For example, check out his playing here on "Lyin' Eyes"… thankfully, the mix is just right and the film and editing crews made sure we get to see his playing in addition to hearing how much it contributed to the song/performance. Just so beautiful… it's a showcase for him.

Yes. He improvised a lot of those riffs. It’s too bad Henley became greedy and kicked him out.
I’ve seen this 1977 concert so many times. Randy Meisner does s great performance of “Take it to the Limit” here too.
