One of the coolest guys in Rock history, or dim-witted hillbilly?
    Your thoughts?
I take the first choice, personally. Ronnie was a cool dude..the hat, the bare feet, the whiskey, the overall attitude. Ronnie was alright in my book.

Just finished reading a book about Skynyrd, written by Gene Odom, a childhood friend of Ronnie'sRonnie really comes off as a real cool guy. Not perfect of course, he could be a mean and nasty drunk, but when sober, was one of the most genuine guys you could find. And a real talented leader of a rock-n-roll band.

Sounds like Gene captured the full picture.

Lynyrd Skynyrd is better than today's country music by a long shot. Today's country music is horrible.

What does country music have to do with Lynyrd Skynyrd?

Skynyrd could play country music just fine. It had a Skynyrd spin to it, but it was still country music. Songs like "Things Going On", "Mississippi Kid", "Made In The Shade", "All I Can Do Is Write About It", and "Honkey Tonk Night Time Man" are all killer examples.
And it was far better than what constitutes country music today.

They could, but it's not really their main genre or relevant to what you were asking.

"Simple Man" could have easily been written by Merle Haggard or Waylon Jennings.
