Not really, many band survived the loss of members
The Who lost Keith Moon and John Entwistle
Rolling Stones, most of the band left only Jagger and Richards remain.
Pink Floyd carried on aftet Syd Barrett left and then when main songwriter Roger Waters left and they were still good. -

Jagger and Richards are the two main members of The Rolling Stones. And Pink Floyd is a whole different issue given Syd Barret's issues. And he was excluded as much, if not more so, than simply leaving. And losing a member because they died from a serious disease is vastly different to simply leaving. Besides, Barret era Floyd is very different to the later stuff.
Led Zeppelin split up after John Bonham died, does that mean he was the most talented member of that band? Just because some bands continue and some don't after members die/leave, means absolutely nothing. -

Well Floyd continued after Roger Waters left and he wrote nearly everything during Floyd's prime 1973-1983.
Gilmore however is an excellent guitarist and good singer/songwriter himself so after Waters left, the albums the remaining members did were quite good.
The Doors, are an example Jim Morrison died, the other members did a few albums without him but were crap, i think Morrison was better than Mercury at least at composing lyrics -

That don't prove anything at all. Some bands break up completely, some continue, some come back briefly years later. There's no comparison between one band and another because there are so many variables that nobody but those involved will be aware of.
I disagree about Jim Morrison being better than Freddie Mercury too. They were too different to really be able to fairly compare them, but I think that Mercury had a bit more variety and ability to appeal to a wider range of people with his songwriting, almost certainly helped by the fact that he was active for a lot longer than Jim Morrison was. -

The Who continued to exist but they weren't anywhere near as good (though this may just be a natural decline).
Barrett Floyd, Waters/Gilmour Floyd and just Gilmour-led Floyd are three wildly different bands.

Queen being one of my favorite bands its difficult to chose one member as being more talented, but for the sake of your question i would have to go with Freddie. He was a fantastic vocalist and wrote some of their greatest songs. He also designed the Queen Crest. He was also creative enough to venture into both Pop and Opera music in his solo releases whilst Brian May and Roger Taylor tried to stick to their Rock roots. All the members were talented though and in reality all of them contributed greatly to the sucess of Queen.
You are incorrect in saying that Innuendo was their last album and that Queen didn't record new material without Freddie however. The album Made In Heaven was finished after Freddie's death and released in 1995. He recorded the vocals but had little musical input into the album. The three remaining members also recorded No One But You as a tribute to Freddie and released it as a single and on the Queen Rocks compilation. May & Taylor also went on to record a new album with Paul Rodgers: Queen+Paul Rodgers-The Cosmos Rocks. Even though there were some decent songs on the album, lyrically it was nowhere near being on the level of Queen albums when all the members were involved.

All four were really great. Deacon and Taylor were great on the instruments. May was a great guitarist. Mercury was probably the best singer of the 70's, 80's. He could also play the piano and wrote most of their music. All four could sing and blended very well together. Without a doubt-one of the best groups of all time. I remember how I came to first listen to them. Lester Bangs for Crème Magazine was saying how bad they were. A mix of Led Zeppelin and the Moody Blues. I said whoa that sounds great and so it was!

Queen is a band where I find all four members to be essential. They've all written great songs and they all contribute a unique musical sound to the group. Nobody plays drums quite like Roger Taylor and Brian May has one of the most identifiable guitar sounds in all of rock and roll.
Brian May tends to stand out as my favorite member, though, but I wouldn't say he's any more of less talented than Freddie. -

Building a guitar well isn't really a sign of musicianship thoughif that's what 'talented' refers to in this thread.
May is a good player, but his songwriting is pretty dreadful; his ear isn't as good as Freddie's.
I went to the same school as May & he built that guitar in the village / town where I grew up. I later studied at the same music college as Freddie! I don't expect you to be impressed, but just thought I'd throw it in -

m impressed that you threw it in! My mentioning Mays accomplishment goes along with my being irritated when people knock singers for not writing their own songs. If Elvis is taken down a notch or two for not being a songwriter then Hendrix should lose points for not being a luthier.
As far as Freddie is concerned, I don`t enjoy his singing at all.

Really, re F's voice? Not even on something like Killer Queen? I can't imagine that song being sung better or, given the lyrics & subject-matter, any more appropriately in terms of delivery & 'sexiness'though it is my favourite pop song of all time, so perhaps I'm biased.
