Is Taylor Swift the lamest popstar to make it as big as she has?

My first thought as well.

I'm not a fan of her music. It's not to my taste. 10 Grammy Awards, 1 Emmy Award, 22 Billboard Music Awards, 11 Country Music Association Awards, 8 Academy of Country Music Awards, and 1 Brit Award. You don't win that amount of awards with having no talent.
it's all very safe, kiddy stuff
What's your point?
She doesn't even really have one signature song in the way that typically 'most popular right now' popstars before her have.
"Shake It Off" or "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" or "Love Story".
And all that wouldn't really be a problem if she weren't known just as much if not more for her dating life as her music (or more specifically, deliberately making her dating life a commodity for the press and a strange way to fuel interest in her music).
That's just part of modern celebrity culture. Look at Kanye West. She's 26 years old, of course she's going to be dating. She's in the public eye so of course the press are going to be reporting on her and who she's dating. That's not really her fault. -

Music awards are synonymous with popularity. And I never said she had NO talent.
What's your point?
Just as an example, Madonna the length of time she'd been in the game that Taylor is, she was doing songs like "Justify My Love" and the Erotica album. She had her teen pop hits in the 80s (which were fine and all) and then progressively aged her music along with herself. Not saying that 'sexing it up' wouldn't be a giant cliche at this point, but most artists that have gotten as big as Taylor is now usually by now have tried to progress a little bit. Taylor's music is still 'high school' and she's pushing 30 very soon.

It's not that she's dating, it's that she makes absolute sure she's dating in the public (and most importantly tabloid's) eye. And a lot of her past relationships have been fake, she's been called out on it.

I don't see how she's any different than any other female popstar of the last few decades.
I don't know why people seem to have these preconceived notions that pop music is supposed to shake the grounds of the Earth. It's pop. It's supposed to appeal to the widest demographic possible.
I don't really like this style of music, but some of her songs are certainly listenable. And really, I do a pretty good job of avoiding her (and other pop acts) when I want. I know nothing of her dating life and it never, ever intrudes on my life - so how the hell you're so privy to her and her personal life is a mystery.

It's not easy to avoid her songs when you work in a place that has a radio you can't turn off
.
Last thing I'll say about it now

Still doesn't explain why you're hip to her private life and / or why it's even a blip on your personal radar.
I have a friend who tells me this stuff so I probably looked it up once or twice more out of morbid curiosity.

Sounds to me like you like her more than you even realize. She's slowly creeping her way into your bloodstream, and your original post was you trying to deflect her and prove otherwise, but I see through you.

What other females made it as big as she has? Brittney? Taylor has more musical talent than Brittney.
Not sure what 'obvious melodies' are. It's pop. Most of the melodies are predictable, if that's what you mean.
A lot of times a 'signature song' is a stand out song because the rest of their material is weak or at least inconsistent and their stand out song is the one song that resonated with the public over all of their other songs. Maybe she is just a little more consistent than a stand out song.
As for dating and celeb dating lives, when was that NOT covered? Mick's love life has been in the news for 50 years.
I;m not a fan of Taylor, I think I know 2 of her songs and I havent heard either one all the way through, but I never understand people who complain about the popularity of pop stars.
At least you didnt go the more dramatic "I mourn for a nation where Taylor Swift is popular"If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice

I don't really listen to her music but I am impressed that she knows how to comport herself and take care of her business, brand, and finances. The girl seems to have her head screwed on straight and appears to be loyal to her large group of friends rather than having a posse for appearances.
That's rare in itself.

I don't care for her music, but I don't mind if others listen to it. I'm not impressed by most experimentation, which tends to come off as quite lame, and I don't see any point in having a signature song.
As to gossip about her personal life, haven't they also said plenty about Cher, Madonna, and pretty much every other singer who's come down the pike?
