I don't look down on it, but I usually don't have much interest in it.

I always say this about Frank Portman of the Mr. T Experience. One of America's best lyricists, wildly funny and clever, fronted a great band and nobody gave a sh it in the mainstream because he wasn't tortured and full of angst enough or something. Shrug..

If you're going to introduce humour, in my view you're going to have to be properly satirical or clever about it. Silliness is rarely funny. It's difficult to do well, and you have to do it sparingly if you don't want to be seen as a novelty band like Half Man Half Biscuit. Off the top of my head, only The Dancing Did and Alice Donut really got away with being actually witty in song form.

I don't think so. I personally like the below artists' sillier songs:
            Eminem
            NWA
            Beck
            The Beatles
            Bjork
            Aphex Twin
            Dean Martin
            Beastie Boys
            etc.

Those artists just suck at being funny. All the right people like funny Bob Dylan, Ramones, etc.

It's not something I've ever experienced or thought about.
Surely music has the right to be frivolous or satirical or comical as any art-form does. Besides, it's sometimes more difficult to write funny music than serious. Mozart wrote his musical joke to mock his contemporaries' lack of ability or talent; you have to be very talented to do that.

The answer is no, if it is a song you may listen to a lot. Who wants to hear the same joke 500 times?

People with good taste, if the joke is good. Zappa should've talked less and spent that time listening to Haydn's jokes 500 times each.

Musicians tend to take themselves too seriously sometimes, so yes humor should be in music.

I don't mind a bit of silliness and humour..it can be refreshing and anything that gives smiles to some is ace.
                        BUT..
personallyI have got more laughs and smiles from cliff Richard and funerals than Anything that Zappa put out.
Although I have always defended his right to attempt humour.
GOOD SKY YOU'VE GOT HERE McCINTYRE..WELL DONE!!!
