In spite of both of their legacy, both albums suffer from filler and/or unnecessary skits. I'll give it to
Doggystyle
'cause
Serial Killa
is my favorite song off both albums.

I was never a big West Coast guy, but The Chronic is a fantastic album. Doggystyle is more of a pop record to me. It aspired to mainstream success and achieved it, but The Chronic achieved mainstream success despite being raw and powerful.
Musically, it's one of the best rap albums of all time. You can't hum many rap songs, but The Chronic is full of songs with enough funk and soul to give them some real melody. It's more layered musically. While Dre produced both albums, you can see his love of funk, soul and R&B on The Chronic while Doggystyle just celebrates what it issimply, a rap album. The harsh realities of life in South Central combined with the musical richness of the beats makes The Chronic an amazing album.
Plus, there's something about it that's more real than Doggystyle which comes across like a cartoon, a parody, almost, of The Chronic.

Aren't these both in essence Snoop Dogg albums? Because he seems to be on Chronic way more than Dre. I'm not going to choose because I'm not sure if I've heard Doggystyle, but I think The Chronic is to some degree overrated.
