The thing with Gary Glitter is that he was a one hit wonder and that one song is way more well known than his actual name. Hes not someone whos really talked about enough to be the most hated. Hes certainly not like Justin Bieber where people wont shut up about him, ofcourse i think Beiber hate has calmed down.

Yeah but theres still a ton of people who continue to kiss the bands ass and call them the greatest band of all time. Consider how many people are excited over Hardwired even though the two released songs are underwhelming.

I never understood the backlash over that. He was fighting for the little bands, the independents that needed sales to survive and were being destroyed by file sharing. He had the massive resources required to do battle, since it took big money to fight it.
I admire him for it. -

Who is Gary Glitter?
I'd say it's probably one of those artists/bands that it's popular to hate, like Nickelback, Genesis, etc. People hate them because it's cool to hate them.
Before Justin Bieber's new album, I would have included him on that list, but his songs since last year have been actually really good, and I think people recognize that now.
I'm just going to the store -

Huh really? I didnt know that. Still over hear the song is much more well known than his name. I doubt most people here even know the songs name, they just know it as that song they always play at sports games and pep rally's.

I think a lot of people hate them because a lot of their lyrics have a sort of "common man" sentimentality to them that comes across as insincere and contrived to a lot of people.

yeah it definitely has to be Nickelback. No other band or artist I've seen inspires the near universal level of hate and contempt that they do. Online at least. In real life most people I know think they're just kind of mediocre. I only know one person personally who is actually a fan of the band. They obvious have fans out there somewhere though because they've sold like 50 million albums and sell out arenas.
