I was a big fan of Bobby
s, among the most talented of the 1960s teen idols (after Ricky Nelson and Brenda Lee). His stuff was produced by the clever producer Snuff Garrett. Bobby started out as a Buddy Holly imitator (even recording with The Crickets) before becoming a talent in his own right. Bobby recorded one Billboard #1 hit, "Take Good Care of My Baby" and more than two dozen charting singles from 1959 to 1967. He was also popular in the UK. Moreover, Bob Zimmerman played piano in his band in the late 1950s before he became Bob Dylan. Bobby appeared as himself in a few musical variety films and as an actor in Cmon Let`s Live a Little
with Jackie DeShannon.

"I lived here [St Paul, Minnesota] a while back, and since that time Ive played all over the world with all kinds of people, everybody from Mick Jagger to Madonna and everybody in there in between. But the most beautiful person Ive ever been on the stage with is a man whos here tonight, who used to sing a song called Susie Baby. Bobby Vee is actually here tonight. Maybe you can show your appreciation with just a round of applause. So were gonna try to do this song. Ive done it before with him once or twice."
