I came in on the last 1/2 hour of the movie and now can't wait to see all of it.
Even though from the title and the first few minutes I saw, I could guess where it was headed, it still held my interest. The actors movingly convey the bleakness beneath their forced gaiety and every moment and mood felt genuine. Very impressive in every aspect.
I am so glad that even after decades of my watching classic films, there are still gems like this left for me to discover.
      Group hug for Ahma!

And it's really great for the silent film fan too, seeing Richard Barthelmess and Johnny Mack Brown, two fellows who did quite a number of silents, together in a fun talkie like this. Walter Byron also did silents, like Gloria Swanson's Queen Kelly.
Yes, the film had a lot of drinking but mostly it had FRIENDSHIP. And it also had CHIVALRY. None of the men make advances to Nikki except the outsider, played by Walter Byron. They treat her like a wacky sister. It's wonderful.
