Evidently I missed some lines in this movie, or the copy I saw wasn't intact.
In the Milan hospital, what did the priest tell the couple about their upcoming marriage and children something about God not approving during the War? Why wouldn't God approve?
    Thanks.

The Priest knows they are having pre-marital sex but because it's 1932 they couldn't be obvious about it in the movie script so it's very vague. Because it was against the war regulations they couldn't get married but the Priest recites the marriage vows so in the eyes of god they are married and no longer sinning.
