    Why do you think the film opens with such a dramatic scene of a doctor being murdered?

      When making a movie about a man and his microscope, I suppose the dramatic opening was to hook the audience. It also plays up the depth of emotions that Pasteur's work engendered in the medical community.
      "Wake me when we get to Purgatory."
