Do you mean "TERRIBLY"-good?
No. They mean "Look at me! Look at me! I'm committing what many will consider celluloid sacrilege! Everybody react to me with anger and insults and arguments that will be completely wasted on me!" -

I think it's interesting "Why" we like the films that we do.
Sometimes it's not necessarily the film it's self, but what was going on for us when we saw it. Like something we saw growing up and we remember it with a time that we think of fondly.
I often think of music in a similar way. There is a period of music that I particular don't like. If I'm objective about it, it really is Not the music I don't like, it's because that time period was difficult for me personally and that music was the soundtrack of the period. ~
I do find it interesting why certain films do and do not resonate with us. -

I agree, one of my favorite films of all time, and also one of the very bet. Truly a remarkable film

I've got it my #22 all time,
A+
. One aspect which shouldn't be taken too seriously from me- as a kid, the movie seemed sprinkled with almost too much maturity. Now as an adult, the opposite seems true.
As a teen, I distanced myself from it due to the musical numbers. Now I'm down again with them for laughs.
my essential 50

What makes this film amazing to me is that it was made nearly 80 years ago. No computers, all studio sets (which is pretty remarkable in itself!) and the cast actually had talent. They were all singers, actors, dancers and it shows. I just watched the Blu-Ray last night and it is simply one of those movies that I never get tired of. I think it's a tribute to how well the movie is loved when people who watched it as kids (like me) still enjoy it as adults.

I don't think that the Wizard of Oz is perfect per se, but it is an incredible piece of art. It's among the top three musical films ever made. It is embedded in American culture.. perhaps more than any other film ever made. If you've never seen the Wizard of Oz.. in a way it is not really possible if you live in the US. So many pop culture references that it boggles the mind.
As for the perfect film I nominate Chinatown.
