Well, 2 people mentioned were Joaquin Phoenix and Gerard Butler fr the role of Heathcliff
Joaquin I could see if only because he definitely has a Laurence Olivier look going for him- elegant but dark. Plus you know he can PLAY dark because of his roles in Gladiator and Walk the Line (and maybe even a little bit of his acting in The Village). He has that ability, but then there's:
Gerard Butler I think I could really see him as Heathcliff with his sharper features (at least sharper that Joaquin) and HIS dark good looks- He just LOOKS like a Heathcliff. Plus you know he can definitely play the hardened and tormented but impassioned leading male (i.e. his role as the phantom in Phantom of the Opera- his acting was brilliant, and he really made you feel for his character and what he was going through- it was genuine. That is what whoever plays Heathcliff needs to be able to do, or else it's just not worth it).
So basically, I'm going to have to go with Gerard Butler on this one (I firmly believe, however, that Laurence Olivier's performance cannot be topped). -

Saw other posts and also believe
Cillian Murphy would be decent as Heathcliff- but I like Butler better
Johnathan Rehys-Myers as the other leading male perhaps- he's young, he's handsome, and he has a softer aristocratic look about him which I could see Cathy going for
If, however, Angelina Jolie is a part of it, I will NOT watch it (or if I do end up seeing it, it will only be to scoff at her performance as Cathy- cannot see that at all) -

i think emily blunt would be perfect. the only person i can imagine as heathcliff though, is alan rickman.
maybe that's why i can't enjoy any of the adaptations - i don't think they ever found heathcliff!! -

Well
Past actors that I would have considered would have been
Yul Brynner (or Robert Mitchum, if he can pull of the accent) and my fav of all time, Deborah Kerr, as Heathcliff and Cathy.
I like the choice of Phoenix and Winslet. -

a post way up the top offered jodhi may which i think is a great choice, she isnt perhaps the most well known actress but ive seen her in a few plays and she's always been excellent, she's great at going from one emotion to the complete extreme.

I wish Vivien Leigh could have played the part of Cathy back in the day.
But if they do a remake, I'd like to see Joaquin Phoenix, Johnny Depp, or Gerard Butler in the part. Kate Winslet would make a wonderful Cathy.
Is it true that Johnny and Angelina are thinking of doing a remake? I know he said once that he loves the 39 movie and has watched it repeatedly.
How about Sean Bean as Cathy's brother? -

Hi i live like half an hour away form the yorkshire moors where it is set. If they did do it agen they would ahve to do it so authentic like have the yorkshire accents and set on the actual yorkshire moors.
I heard a rumour just recently that they are thinking of doing it agen
Apparently Anjelina Jolie is doing it
she has been watchin a yorkshire soap opera to learn the accent apparantly
M night shayamalan was going to do a few years ago with johnny depp and angelina jolie but he chose to do the village insted
I think Johnny would be brill
But Rachel weisz would be better
u cant have two americans do an english part
I'll accept johnny but not Angelina -

To be honnest, I cant imagine Cate Winslet running throught the hills. I think of British actress Amelia Warner, as Cathy.
