Just because it's old…

I'm sick of people thinking that they're "obligated" to like this movie because it's old; that you can't be a real moviewatcher and not think this movie is an unparalleled, groundbreaking achievement. It's bad, boring, and nothing like the book, and a 7.8 rating is a terrible overstatement.<<
Nobody likes this movie because they think they're "obligated;" what a ridiculous idea. Obviously from your post, not everyone does like this film. Why do you feel such a need to put down those of us who do? As to the rating, it's that high because many, many people disagree with you and think it IS a great film.

Molly your an idiot!
bad acting? are u crazy? The acting was superb and Wuthering Heights is a great film. But then again you wouldn't know a great film even if it b!tch slapped you.
I bet you would think such flops like Monster-in-Law or Gigli were fantastic movies And that Ben Afflack(sp) was a way better actor than Lawrence Olivier and Jennifer Lopez much more accomplished actress than Merle Oberon.

Johanna, dear, perhaps you should learn proper grammar before calling people an idiot.
Lawrence Olivier's acting is wooden at best; Merle Oberon is a false, untilligent ditz (sound like somebody we know, Johanna?) Have you READ the book? Cathy is supposed to be smart and free-spirited, not a sighing, swooning fool; Merle Oberon completely destroyed the role.
I must be led to think that all you've been watching lately is Monster-In-Law and Gigli, because, while there has been some BAAAD stuff out, there also have been some incredible movies with wonderfully honest acting that would trump the sad drivel put out by Oberon any day. When I said "today's standards" I meant the high standards of some of our best (Oscar winning or brilliant independent), not the cheap crap that you claim I must think are "fantastic." I would eat my hat, so to speak, if, released in color and without the name "Olivier" stamped on it, this movie got any critical acclaim.
The fact that this movie is being watched is NOT a sign of how good it is; it's just a sign that for some reason, people still seem to convince themselves that black and white + an actor that was famous years ago = classic. And grouping me in with "ignorant" young people is such a cop out. There are a lot of "old" people who are ignorant as well, too stuck in their own idea of what is "good" that they can't open their minds and see what they're really looking at. Like it or not, it's "ignorant" young people, with their new insights and ideas, that are the ones that change the world, not old stodgers sitting in their chairs and plugging their ears and humming every time sombody under 40 opens their mouth. -

Molly for your information I've never even seen gigli or monster inlaw and no I don't plan on seeing them either.2nd Why are you grading my grammer? .I'm entitled to my opinions same like everybody who posts on these message boards and from what I've seen there are a couple of people who disagree with what you've had to say.3rd Why call me a ditz? why because I forgot to put a few commas and periods where they belong? It's really not that serious I'm sure IMDB will forgive such an oversight.Or perhaps you see me as a ditz because of the way I speak. so what? Just because you happen to speak a certain way does not make you better than me or anybody.4th why only pick my comment to rant and b*tch at? is because you see my signature and you know that I happen to be a latina? Which leads me to believe that you think all Puerto Ricans are ignorant, hate to burst your bubble but we're not.I'm done saying what I've had to say to you.Damn I wonder how you're going to reply to that one person who said your "stupidity was showing" and everybody else besides me who disagreed with you..
Have a real nice wknd. -

If you had fully read my post instead of immediately pulling the race card, you would have noticed that I also responded to "Mikehall's" equally ignorant post.
I assumed you were a ditz because you spoke with bad grammar and spelling and used no logic to back up your points. You have only proven me correct.
Que tu, tambien, pases un buen fin de semana. -

Where do you come off telling me I spoke with bad grammer? and for your information I'm not talking, I'm typing. If you were so "intelligent" you would have known the difference.Furthermore if you don't like what I type then here's a suggestion; don't read any of my posts anymore

Lmfao@ you telling me I can't spell when you don't even know how to spell the word "because",perhaps you should'nt criticize my spelling if you yourself don't know how to spell certain words correctly.

That would be called a typo, considering I spelled it correctly in my thread title.
Your spelling of "grammar," however, clearly wasn't a typo, as it is a common mistake of many ill-witted people everywhere. As was "shouldn't," which, by the way, is a contraction of "should" and "not," not "should" and "nt." The apostrophe is to take the place of the missing O, as in "don't," "wouldn't," etc.
LMFAO, as you so eloquently put it. You "should'nt" even try. Obviously you've stopped discussing the content of my first post, and the second where you (hilarously) accused me of being racist, after you realized you were wrong. So why don't you stop now while you're ahead? Your should I say "your'e"? -

Geez u seriously need to get a life,or a hobby.Do somethin, anything that gets you off these message boards grading other people's spelling and GRAMMAR,goddam you're worse than a b!tch with pms!nag nag nag.Seriously fall back, there are other people on this board who think you're annoying as hell and stupid, immature ect,why don't you go bother them for a while.I'm quite certain you might find a misplaced comma,a missing period or even a "typo".And you need to get off the racism trip,I have not said anything else about it.

I seem to see that you're the one responding to me. You should perhaps follow your own advice, eh, Johannah?
"Nag, nag, nagyou're annoying as helllgeez u seriously need to get a life." Wait, who's the immature kid in this discussion again?
I bring the "racism" thing up simply because I find it interesting that, when put under pressure, you immediately jumped to the idea that, rather than being simply wrong, you were being "abused" by some sort of "oppressor." An idea that allowed you to bypass the original content of the post. I think you should perhaps do some introspection (www.dictionary.com if you don't know that one) to see why that is. It certainly isn't healthy. -

Personally, I didn't read phowell's response as an insult. It could easily have been read as, "The only reason you call Molly_HC an idiot is because she's young, there's no other evidence to prove it." I don't really care whether or not he meant it as that.
Do yourself a favor and just stop responding, the last shred of respect I have for you just blew out the window with your ridiculously overreacting response. I don't know what I'll do if you make a fool of yourself yet again, I might not be able to stop laughing.
Edit: Hahahah I just read your post in "Children of Men." You're in your thirties?!? Oh man, that's a riot, I thought you were like twelve! Oh well, I guess it just makes you look even dumber for spending all this time bitching at a sixteen year old, huh? -
johannamarie — 18 years ago(July 26, 2007 09:21 PM)
once again i have proven my point,i see now your goin around these boards lookin for posts i've made? And the reason you never read phowell's or anybody elses comments except mine is because you didnt want to.So i say again hop off of my font, last i checked everybody's font looks the same on here perhaps you should try and whine about those, look for a missing comma or a typo.Maybe you should try and enjoy your youth play with your barbie dolls instead of spending your time trying to seem older than you really are.And as far as you making me look dumb not even, because you have done nothing but reply to my posts as well so i'd say we're even in that respect.

Enough already, dammit!
I'm sick of these petty squabbles, and I can't understand why IMDb didn't delete all your posts. You both have forgotten about the movie you were supposed to be discussing, and have degenerated into stupid name-calling and accusations. I'll wager that you're both children; in any case, that's how you act.
FYI, WUTHERING HEIGHTS doesn't have the same dark undertone that is in the novel, but it it still an excellent movie in its own right. In the 1930's romance in film was a necessary respite from the difficulties of the Depression, and WUTHERING HEIGHTS is a perfect example of the genre.
As for the acting, it was perfect for the times. As I said before, the movie is a romance, and the performances fit the mood. And while Merle Oberon was limited as an actress. director Wyler got the performance of her career out of her.
So, stop being so narrow-minded and prejudiced, and see this movie for what it isa classic. -

Hey, I am quite young -17 years of age and I LOVE this movie. Let's not involve ageism in here.
It's Olivier's best and no, just because it's got 'Olivier' staped on it it doesn't mean it's brilliant- have you seen 'Henry V'? Oh, my goodness, that was terrible! It's all about the quality and the timelessness of the picture, nbot because it's old!
