What Happened to the Guard Dogs?

The first time Spencer Tracy approaches the walled-in Forrester estate there are several vicious looking guard dogs rushing at the entrance gate. But after that Tracy enters the grounds repeatedly with never a sign of the dogs. I found that very odd.

I wondered about this as well. I decided it was because it was (seemed to be, anyway) a huge estate.

I'm betting that the Great Danes were being fed at the time Tracy sneaked onto the grounds

Pauline Kael mentioned in a number of reviews {I don't remember which ones} that disappearing dogs were a hallmark of bad scripts.

just watched the scene after Spencer Tracy was told Hephburn had gone on a trip, dogs were at gate. They must come and go as the movie needs them!

You see them just for a second when the doctor is coming out after seeing Jeb. When the taxi guy crashes into the doctor's car.
Let's just say that God doesn't believe in me.
