I did read that because of WWII, they moved the location from Germany; but to where?
Of course I realize that it was not filmed outside of California, but does anyone know where the movie is supposed to be set in? I am assuming Great Britain, but are we talking England, Scotland, Wales?
I am a geography freak and that is the first question I have about any movie.
Just watching it now for the 1st time, on MeTV.

Its still supposed to be in Germany. They just made up fictional cities

I believe that Vasaria is supposed to be somewhere in the remotest part of the mountains in Switzerland.

It starts off in Cardiff, Wales. Larry then travels by horse to mainland Europe. Unless he went by boat just prior to arriving at the gypsy camp.
