I don't like Rope as much as you do. I would rate it top 15 of Hitchcock's films, not top 5.
Of course, it's still Hitchcock which means it's very suspenseful and has some great plot twists.

I'm a sucker for limited setting films. That's why Dial M for Murder is up there to. Guess I'm missing Rear Window though!

                3. Vertigo
                4. Psycho
                5. Notorious
Others I've watched - Dial M For Murder, Foreign Correspondent, Strangers On A Train, North By Northwest, Frenzy, The Birds, Shadow Of A Doubt
EDIT: Now have watched The Trouble With Harry, Lifeboat and Rope. The Trouble With Harry becomes my 5th favorite Hitchcock ahead of Notorious.

I also like Rebecca as no. 1. You haven't watched Shadow of a Doubt? But you're on a Shadow of a Doubt Message Board.

For two cents, here ya go:

                        1. North by Northwest
                        2. Vertigo
                        3. Psycho
                        4. Dial M for Murder
                        5. Rebecca
                        6. The Birds
                        7. Marnie
                        8. Saboteur
                        9. Spellbound

                          @aciolino.
Actually, I must revise my list as follows:

                          1. Rebecca
                          2. Shadow of a Doubt
                          3. Dial M for Murder
                          4. Strangers on a Train
                          5. Psycho
                          6. Vertigo
                          7. Rear Window
                          8. The Man Who Knew Too Much
                          9. North by Northwest
                          10. Suspicion
It's possible that Strangers on a Train should be ranked higher on my list. Great acting, many plot twists, great set pieces.

What is this fascination with strangers rankings of films?
Perhaps the OP just wants to reach out for some sense of community.

                              @jellyree.
Well, sometimes someone likes a film and convinces you to watch it. Recently, on another board, a person recommended I watch "Brief Encounter." I found it on youtube, watched it, and enjoyed it immensely.
On this board, someone ranked "The 39 Steps" in their top 5 which makes me want to see it. Alas, I have not done so yet but I will watch it soon.
Other than that, It'ts interesting to see if other people agree with your picks.

I don't understand the love for NBN. I love Cary Grant, and I enjoy most of Hitchcock's films, but NBN does nothing for me.

I love how we can all appreciate Hitch, but in different ways. I love the one you don't, and your favorite is not one of my own. Just shows us how broad his appeal was and still is.
                                        My favorite 10 are:

                                        1. Psycho
                                        2. Rope
                                        3. North by Northwest
