Is the Blu Ray release worth it?

I have this on DVD and, being a purist, I'd like to upgrade to Blu Ray. However, I noticed that the Blu Ray is suspiciously cheap. Is it just a scan of the DVD or is there a noticeable difference?

The Blu-ray is not an upscale of the DVD; the image has significantly more detail and is sharper than the DVD. It's not a perfect transfer by any measure, though. But if you can find the Blu-ray cheap, it should still be well worth the upgrade, if you love the movie.
