My father is facinated with the mansion that is in the 1945 version, so I've been trying to help him find out about it. Does anyone know if it is an actual house somewhere and where it's located or was it just a Hollywood set?
Thanks for your help. -

That's a good question, willie56.
Does anybody know ??
and if it was all just a set, who designed it ?
Imdb
just lists "Samuel Goldwyn Studios" for "filming locations."
So, much of the movie may have been shot with rear-screen projection, montage, and matte shots.
Curious in the book, the mansion was described as "very modern" (for 1939; perhaps Art Deco ?), yet the movie mansion had more of a Victorian, "classic old house" vibe to it.
No mention of actual "location shooting"
anywhere
on the internet.
Christie's original island was inspired by Burgh Island, on the S. Devon coast of England:

The hotel on the island apparently has "modern" Art Deco styling, especially on the interiors.
Enjoy !
