      Even so, the only ending of this story which I accept is the novel's ending.
      The ending of this film is nothing but a cop-out ending IMHO.

          The book's ending works well on the page, but not really for a movie. I like both, especially since Christie had written both.

              the exposition would have been pretty long, and a downbeat ending would have killed the film at the box office in the mid Forties.
