She didn't annoy me one little bit. Sure, she knew the effect her looks had on men. She also knew it was her only ticket out of a small town to a better standard of life. She was young and she wanted to enjoy herself so she went out with men who could pay the bills. But when they wanted something more, she held out for marriage and a guarantee of prosperity. She had no illusions about men, about life or about herself. She didn't cheat men or make promises she had no intention of keeping and she wasn't about to let men play those tricks on her.

I agree with the poster who says she was NOT annoying. I guess you expect women that look like Linda Darnell - keep in mind, this is in the forties, when options for women were much more limited, and, it would seem, hitching her star to a man with money was her best option - just spread their legs for a man cuz he's a nice guy (none of the guys here were even particularly nice, least of all Dana Andrews)?
She was honest, spoke her mind, pulled no punches. And sooooo hot. -

Tom Courtenay's line for Dr Zhivago is so scary. In the context he says people won't gossip after the revolution. That alone should have been a warning of the hell to come.
