Alternate ending?

I was checking out the special features of the DVD and while looking at the Production Stills section I saw several photos of Dana Andrews and Charles Bickford on a beach in a fistfight or brawl. Was this the original ending and they decided to re-shoot a different one? Or was it a scene elsewhere in the film which was deleted? The commentary track does not answer this question. Anybody know?

Maybe there had originally been a scene where Bickford's character had run across Dana Andrews and Alice Faye when they were picnicking on the beach and had asked them if he could have one of their hot dogs and they got into a brawl when Andrews told him to get lost(Maybe??)
