Ang Rob, you ASKED for peoples comments! (jerk!) Why remake it? its faultless. tmf scipio has got it right, it should be restored/remastered, not remade.

I think Robin Williams is about the only actor who could make a decent VERSION of this script, but it would certainly be Williams, not Kaye but having said that, I also think Robin Williams has too much integrity and respect for classic films to try to remake a movie like this. Steve Martin would try, but then he likes to mock the classics like he did in "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" and "Pink Panther" and he could never make this film better than Kaye did so why bother with a remake when the original is perfect as it is?

Dead men dont wear plaid (a minor classic, to me) was not mocking classic gangster flics, it was an homage to them, surely. I got it,I got it,I got itI aint got it

even if robin williams considered such a thing anyway he is too old now to do it justice, danny kaye was still pretty young when he made this, which is by the way one of my all time fav films, a little trivia for you btw, in the musical number where danny and vera jump off the stage into a large drum going down into the drum danny landed badly and broke his ankle the scene of them poping back up out of the drum wasnt filmed till about 6 weeks later.

You definitely don't want a remake, but IF you used today's actors, I think you could use Jim Carrey or Will Ferrell. If you check Carrey's "The Majestic" or Ferrell's "Stranger than Fiction", you can see they can play "normal" characters.

Funny you should say that, but when the first suggested a remake of "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" the first person approached was Jim Carrey.

I think Sean Hayes could do this double role wonderfully.
He has the energy, talent and lunacy to make a fine Buzzy Bellew
and Edwin Dingle. That manic personality would fit perfectly
A heads up: "Wonder Man" will be shown at the Danny Kaye Film Festival
in Los Angeles (actually Pasadena) in January 2013. See the
                        site www.dannykayefest.com for more info.

I think we can forget about Robin Williams now.
                          It's that man again!!

i would hate to see a remake. Nobody could replace danny kaye. as has been seen by the truly dreadful remake of walter Mitty.
