Tonight I flipped over during a commercial break and caught a few seconds of the AMC airing of the 1947 classic. It was that putrid colorized version, but even worse, a few seconds after I put it on, this big, intrusive pop-up ad appeared in the lower right side, growing and then shrinking and sticking around for several seconds, advertising something or other.
When you ad in the lengthy commercial breaks, it seems to me there is no reason to not buy the cheap copies of this and other great films so you can watch without these interruptions, easily pausing whenever you want a break, and, of course, viewing them at your convenience.
Most shows I watch, I record, so I don't need to see the ads. But those pop-up ads during the showparticularly when they are NOT right after a commercial breakare simply too much to bear, especially if it is a dramatic show. -

I no longer have cable so if it isn't on amazon or HULU or broadcast over the air I'm out of luck.
I did purchase this on DVD but I think it is the colorized version. That may have been the only one available at the time.
I prefer to watch in the original black and white. The include The Bishop's Wife and Holiday Inn.
I believe White Christmas may have originally been in color but not sure.
Too many young people don't appreciate the original black and white or perhaps networks just assume people will not watch a classic in black and white.
This is the same sort of thinking that would take markers to an Ansel Adams print.
Horrible.
I prefer original formats, that include black and white and also letterbox or widescreen if available. With HD it easier to find the original widescreen movies now. (BTW it is the ONLY way to watch Ben Hur.) -

Interesting that none of the only three Christmas movies to get Best Picture nominationsMiracle on 34th Street, The Bishop's Wife, or It's a Wonderful Lifeare available on Netflix or Amazon Prime. I finally gave in and bought all three for our house and also for our two daughters' homes. No one should be without these movies at Christmas time. Especially when you can own all three on DVD for about $30 or less.
