Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Panic in the Streets

    Ironman54 — 14 years ago(December 31, 2011 07:49 PM)

Never been to NO in my life so I really wouldn't know but, right off the bat, the cops - everyone it seems, sounds like they have NYC accents. Kazan apparently knew the streets of NO so I'm reticent to criticize but really . I'm only 20 mins or so into it - Oh, and Widmark talks like a thug rather than any doctor I've ever met and the cops and every official sound like, at the very least, Yank.
Also, I just now heard a bit of back and forth between 2 characters (typing, wasn't looking at the screen) with the word "fumigate" reminiscent of the lines in The Godfather: "Watch we don't exterminate you " just before the GF's driver caught a few in the back of the head (can't for the life of me remember his name now but I know we won't 'see him no more') Anyhow, it sounded like the wording was identical just with the word fumigate rather than exterminate.
*Please excuse the above mess - I'm typing with one eye on the screen and both ears. Not easy 🙂

People in New Orleans commonly have a very 'Brooklyn' accent. It spread from the Irish. NOT 'Southern'.

All true. I lived there for many years.
To me, it seemed like a slowed down version of a New York accent, with 'y'all' instead of 'you guys'.
