Much ado has been made about the beautiful maid at the door who lets Scrooge into Fred's house and then also encourages him to join the party - and rightfully so.
I believe the Fan character and the actress who played her should also be given her due for accomplishing that exact same feat equally well, earlier in the film.
When Fan visits Scrooge at his schoolhouse, enters the doorway, looks around the room for Scrooge, starts smiling and gently shouting "Ebenezer!" as soon she notices him, then runs to himthat's the picture of sheer beauty. I can always feel Fan's love for Scrooge shining through like a beacon.
That is a remarkably moving & powerful scene.
I submit that to do that scene better than how the Fan actress did it would literally be impossible. If ever perfect acting/filmmaking has happened, that is one of the very best examples of it.
I further submit that the Fan actress accomplished something more meaningful within that one single scene than most Hollywood actresses ever accomplish when their entire filmography is considered in its totality.
What say you ladies and gentlemen about the scene featuring Fan at Scrooge's door? -

If you want to see Fan (actress Carol Marsh) in something different she is one of Dracula's victims in Hammer's "The Horror Of Dracula" the first Christopher Lee Dracula movie. She's just as good looking in color.
Just my opinion but I think the maid in that scene is kind of mousy looking. Not my type. -

Thanks for the recommendation. Although I'm not even sure I want to see the Fan actress in anything else lest it might tarnish my perception of Fan in some way. I think that same kind of principle is why a lot of people were disappointed by the maid mystery being solvedIMO the maid actress being a real person somehow tarnishes people's memory of her as the maid.

This was magnificent not because of her, but because of Sims' superior acting ability. With his back to the camera, he conveyed his utter despair at remembering his love for the only person who ever deeply, truly loved him, only to relive his grief at losing her again. It leaves me breathless each time I see it.
