On screen they were pretty well matched, but off screen Cooper didn't care for Lancaster. Lancaster was a loud mouth liberal and really didn't like working with conservative actors like Cooper. But Lancaster need a big name and that's were Cooper came in. Cooper spent most of his time away from Lancaster and Sara Montiel claiming of all things that she smelled bad and would not keep her hair washed. Cooper was sick during most of the filming and that could have explain the reason he didn't care for Montiel. Cooper was also hurt during the filming.

The reluctance to reveal his "sources" for his "research" on the part of the OP is understandable, because he doesn't have any. He just wants to vainly attempt to big note himself as an insider.
