John F. Kennedy was admitted to a hospital in 1947 for his Addisons disease and told he had less than a year to live. He was even given the Catholic last rites. JFK survived with the help of cortisone therapy, but he started taking more and more; initially only orally, then injections.
There are signs he may have been overdosing on the drug, causing increased anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia and an increased sex drive. Cortisone was kept in safety deposit boxes around the country so that JFK would have ready access to these medications wherever he traveled. One of his closest aides recounts that JFK used (and carried with him around the country) more pills, potions, poultices and other paraphernalia than would be found in a small dispensary.
One wonders what influence his dependence on steroids and amphetamines had on his presidency, in particular during the Cuban missile crisis when the world was on the brink of nuclear war.

He undoubtedly was aware that his medications could affect his ability to make decisions and thus would have relied on his advisers.

I'm the kind of guy, when I move - watch my smoke. But I'm gonna need some good clothes though.
