Excluding the first episode, in which two 1957 Fords are used as police cars, most of the episodes in this series feature classic 1957-61 Virgil Exner-designed Chryslers, Dodges, and Plymouths. As a classic car enthusiast, it's great to watch these episodes of PETER GUNN just to look for the classic cars.
For example: In the third episode, "The Vicious Dog", we see a 1958 Chrysler New Yorker convertible drive into a garage. Then we see Virginia Christine driving a 1958 Plymouth Belvedere convertible. Gorgeous car! We see Lt. Jacobi driving a 1958 Plymouth sedan police car while another mobile unit also is driving a 1958 Plymouth sedan police car.
And Peter Gunn (Craig Stevens) himself drove a cool 1959 Plymouth Sport Fury convertible in the First Season.

Thought it was interesting that Gunn moved from a DeSoto to a Plymouth. I have a look at the DeSoto closely enough to determine which model it is other than knowing it's not the cheapest model, the Dodge based Firesweep.
But a 2ht 58 Firedome, the next cheapest model, cost more than a 59 Sport Fury convertible although not by much.
Still, I wouldn't expect a person as financially successful as Gunn to drive a car from the low-priced 3 even though it was a convertible. -

With DeSoto Sales falling so badly that Chrysler got rid of the brand after a few 61 models were built, it made sense for Chrysler promote a car it had some chance of selling. The medium-priced Market was very weak during this time which also involved failure of the Edsel. Still, I think they should have put Gunn in a Chrysler Saratoga instead of a Plymouth.
