Any idea what that is? Can it really keep up with the Mercedes 300SL in a street race?

Of course in city streets a car's top speed is not going to be much of an advantage. A driver's skill matters for more than if two cars are racing on a fairly straight highway and one can merely overpower the other and pull away.

True, and IIRC the Mercedes driver complimented the kid on his driving. The longer the run, the more straightaways, corners, etc., the more the advantages would have favored the Mercedes. In tight traffic, it comes down to who takes the bigger chances, with some added help from his machine in agility, braking and acceleration.
