We expect large things to appear slow-moving, e.g. mice dash while elephants lumber. Giant Nancy and the giant alien were shown in slow-motion to make their movements match our expectations, but the effect was overdone and looked ridiculous. However, if they hadn't been slowed down at all it would've looked phony, though not as phony as that floppy, giant hand.

Its the hand that irritates me the most about this movie, because I found the alien's giant hand to be quite natural looking, albeit hairy, but Nancy's hands are so fake looking. Why the difference?

I guess it's the best they could do on a low budget. Ironically, the utter ridiculousness of the fake hand is a big part of what makes this flick relevant as a cult favorite so many years later. It irritated me at first, too, until I found I couldn't help laughing at it. I can only imagine how much stoners must enjoy this movie! LOL

Yeah, but when they did a pretty good job with the alien's hand, why not do the same thing with Nancy's hand

It's most likely the same hand but with hair added. You think a movie that cheap could afford
              two
              hands?
Also, you don't see the alien's hand as much as you see Nancy's, so the flaws are more noticeable on the scenes with her hand.

It may be cheap, but its still pretty damn entertaining.
