Possibly, but it'd be interesting to still ask him directly. No one at school told me, and I am an only child with no siblings to ruin stories for me.

That's how it happened with me as well. It's not like someone told me at school or elsewhere.
That being said, I don't think there was any great period where I thought he was actually real.
I remember thinking that all kids just knew he wasn't real, so when I was 7 or so, my cousin and I were watching TV and I mentioned how Santa isn't real, and he jumped up, screaming and crying, running to his mother that I told him Santa isn't real. My mother gave me a walloping for opening up my mouth.
