my guess is they can't afford digital cable to get sundance channel fox movie chanel and TCM amongst the other movie channels so they're stuck with AMC which comes with a regular cable package

I too don't watch AMC because I am grateful to get every channel including the premium movie channels, except the adult channels.
Kind of smug to assume a person can't "afford" to get the other channels, they may have been flipping through the channels, saw Paul and Joanne and started watching. Have you seen Sundance channel's line up lately? TCM doesn't do repeat viewings sometimes in a single year of some really great films. Fox has the lid tight on their vault so sometimes it is years before you catch a classic released from their studio.
I hate that AMC and the premium cable channels pan and scan films. I rather have my films shown in the correct aspect ratio with a small logo appearing at the bottom of the screen every half hour for a 2 minutes like TCM does. Also, FMC pans and scans some of their films - they did this to a RARE Ty Power film not on DVD called UNTAMED with Susan Hayward. I was pissed. -

I remember when AMC used to be worth watching. Then they somehow convinced themselves that people didn't mind butchered films, commercials, etc. and it's been downhill ever since.

I'm watching it on Netflix right now and it's in widescreen, but why is all the widescreen films so small? I've got a beautiful large HD flatscreen and the top and bottom screen is all black! It's a good half of my screen dimensions. Why can't widescreen films just fill up the the whole space?
It's not so bad as long as you can keep the fear from your mind. -

In your TV settings you should find DISPLAY Settings, then look for TV ratio. Try different settings if you don't which is correct (usually Widescreen 16:9). Also look under VIDEO and look for Screen Format. Choices should include Pillar Box,Stretch,Crop, and Original Format.
I realize it's been a year, but if you haven't had success try these out. Good luck.
