Okay, someone's complained that not enough people post here, and I agree 100 percent. I think the trouble is people

I first saw it in 1971 when I was 17. I never thought I would like a film that resembles a soap opera but the film just stuck with me and wouldn't go away. When I bought my first VCR in 1983, it was the 3rd movie of my now massive library that I recorded on tape (long since transferred to dvd) aired by then-commercial free AMC channel.
Another reason this film sticks with me is that it reminds me of my growing up. I'm not from Mississippi or that matter from the South but the old cars, the Esso gas station, the small town scenes were a lot like my childhood (now long since torn down and now just a part of a much larger city which I long since left) Also at least one local ambulance outfit that I remember had a 1957 Cadillac like the one in the film, plus a gentleman down where we lived had a 1954 Lincoln like Clara's only it was a 2 dr hardtop, not a convertible. -

I honestly don't remember but I think I must already have been in my twenties. When I was growing up, I registered Newman primarily as the genius behind organic Oreos. I'd seen some of his later pictures and knew he was a great actor, but seeing this was a revelation of how electric he was in his prime. It's one of my favorite movies, an almost perfect romance; I must have seen it a dozen times since.

I didn't see it as a young person. It came to my attention only about 10 years ago.
It was very sexy in a way that films just aren't anymore. They played with the tension and hyped it up which was very steamy. Nowadays they just show people jumping into bed at the wink of an eye. Boring. -

I just finished watching it for the first time! It came out the year I graduated from high school. I've always known about it but for some reason didn't care to see it. I missed a lot of movies because of a hearing loss. Now I have had a cochlear implant for ten years plus most everything is captioned so I can indulge myself as much as I want seeing all the ones I missed. Even in today's movie theaters there are SONY glasses for captioning as well as CaptiView devices which is a little screen in front of you. If you want to know which theaters have accommodations for hearing loss, go here: www.captionfish.com Can't resist doing a little advocating.
