Holy cow does this movie suck. Audrey Hepburn plays a flighty, whimsical girl, that while adorable seems opportunistic. There's just not much to like about her character. She's not evil or anything, just nothing redeeming.
And what's up with Hannibal? I suppose he's the straight man to Audrey Hepburn's shenanigans, but he comes off as very uninteresting. Yeah he's charming and good looking, but he's got none of the witticism or charisma that he displayed as Banacek or Hannibal. And how did he intend on handling Buddy Ebsen his plan didn't seem to come together
And holy cow, what was the age of consent back in those days? Audrey Hepburn's character was supposed to be 13 years old when she got married? I mean, sure nowadays, girls mature real fastbut man that's a stretch.
As another reviewer commented, what was the point of this movie? It has been highly touted as such an inspiration to filmsblah blah. But everyone was flat. Honestly I've seen better performances from Sylvester Stallone in Creed.
Its kind of a nice snap shot into life in the 60's, but I would love for someone who grew up in that era who watched this to explain the significance of this movie.
Contemporary movies like The Man from U.N.C.L.E. show a more fun look at the 60's than this moviewhich was made in the actual 60's. -

.oh and why did they cast Mickey Rooney for that old Japanese dude? They were able to cast 2 Asian ladies in non-credited party guest rolesbut they couldn't find some random Chinaman for the role of a cantankerous Japanese dude? Were Pat Morita and George Takei too busy? Victor Wong and James Hong unavailable?
And as a person of Oriental descentI'm not exactly offended. It was ridiculous sure, but I'm not offended. That doesn't mean the next guy won't get offended, it was just an asinine performance, that quite frankly didn't need to be in this movie. It would still have been a horrible depiction of Asian Americans regardless of who played it. They would have done fine without Mickey Rooney's characterand his performance. -

Supposed to be a rom-COMEDY - yh - hilarious how far off that is. Easily one of the worst movies I've ever seen - especially given it's reputation for being some big deal. I couldn't even watch it more than a few minutes at a stretch before changing channels - ugh - that bad. Forcing myself to the end of this underwear streak mark.
Rottentomatoes has some summary quote about "Blake Edwards is at his funniest"
I think that's pretty funny; Blake did much better with Peter Sellers Hepburn is super skinny - a flesh covered odd shaped head.
Critics Consensus: It contains some ugly anachronisms, but Blake Edwards is at his funniest in this iconic classic, and Audrey Hepburn absolutely lights up the screen. -

And holy cow, what was the age of consent back in those days?
If they had her guardian's permission or a judicial ruling she could have been married at a younger age.

There are good movies, bad movies, and movies we're supposed to like. Frankly, I find that most of those I'm supposed to like are either not very entertaining or too stupid to waste time on. It has no characters who are not gross exaggerations of who they are supposed to be. The plot is not even vaguely believable. The movie is saved only by Henry Mancini's outstanding score. And it is kind of fun seeing New York scenes of the time. Otherwise, it is best to put this on while you're doing something else, as it is not worth your undivided attention.

Guess you have to be charmed by Audrey Hepburn's star power. And, George Leopard's.
Holly accepted "Fred" immediately as a friend, maybe as a fellow hystler! She seemed to focus on finding a rich husband, however, until she snapped out of it by end.
