Everyone talks about Audrey Hepburn's inspired performance whilst little is said of George Peppard, who I thought played his role quite well. He reminded me a lot of Robert Redford in appearance and acting style which is certainly no indictment on him whatsoever.

I think George had a few demons. He got some great roles and then fizzled. He was very good in this and HTWWW. As bad as the "A-team" was at least he probably made some real money before he got very ill.

Completely agree. George Peppard gave a great performance which definitely contributes to the film's iconic status. Blake Edwards has gone on record stating Peppard wasn't his first or even second choice to play the leading man. He was suave, charming, genuine, and most importantly had real chemistry with Audrey Hepburn. I can't imagine anyone else doing a better job in this role.
