Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — El Cid

Anyone out there know if this film is coming soon in a BluRay edition? Apparently it's out in Europe, Region 2. The visuals in El Cid are outstanding and BluRay would only enhance the film's cinematography even more.

Hello, I am wondering the same thing. I would ask for a Restoration of the Original Film because there are three versions of "Distribution" out there, namely: Tohokushinsha Corp. - Region 0 - NTSC, Miriam Collection - Region 1 - , NTSC Koch Media Region 'B'.
In summary, the German Koch is a Blu-Ray European B Region, but it lacks the Overture Music, why? I have seen other versions lacking the Interlude music, etc. Confer this page: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDReviews15/el_cid_dvd_review.htm
It seems that there are questionable credentials of distribution or at least poor video releases being pushed around.
Therefore, I ask in the name of El Cid himself that this be justly fulfilled: That this epic film called by some "one of the greatest epic films ever made" to be officially restored, enhanced, and edited unto its full original glory of excellence and that it be made available for the Blu-Ray Quality within All Regions wherever, so that all may know who Don Rodrigo Daz de Vivar wasI saydo this for the purest knight of all!

The UK Blu-ray disc of El Cid does have the Overture complete with music. The picture quality is not as good as it should be but it is better than any of the various DVDs.
What we need to know is: 1) who has the original camera negative?; 2) what condition is it in?; and 3) what needs to be done to restore it to perfect condition?
If the OCN is in or can be restored to pefect condition, an excellent Blu-ray disc will be possible.

I did not have a copy of this film and I was debating whether to buy the official (miramax) dvd (the one that Miriam written on it) or buy a blu ray edition. The issue to me was that the different blu ray versions are not really official, so it is the same as when before the official dvd was released. I ended up buying a Spanish blu ray, it had a nice cover. The print is OK, but I would expect more quality from blu ray. Some of the scenes seemed slightly off focus or dark.It seems they just transferred their own copy on to a blu ray disc but did not restore the print or anything like that, which is a disappointment. The Spanish blu ray has the 3 musical pieces for overture, intermission and ending. For those who bought the official 2 disc-dvd. Which one is better? Also, this blu ray contained no extras whereas the 2disc dvd has one disc of extras that I'd love to check out.
