I don't know what you mean by shock factor when it comes to the Munsters. People's reaction to them? That pretty much the humor of the Addams Family. With the Munsters, it was verbal interplay and situations with each other and people outside the family which varied more than it did on the Addams Family. I'm not particularly impressed by the writing on the Addams Family, despite how "sophisticated" it's claimed to be.

Some Karen on Twitter slammed the Munsters and said the Addams Family had "brilliant" humor. Lmao is this brilliance in the room with us now?
How every Addams "joke" goes:
Addams child: Mother, Father, bad is good.
Morticia: And good is bad. C'est la vie.
Gomez: TiSh ThAt's FrEnCh -

The Munsters was better, I've watched both shows & the Munsters is just more fun & funnier because The Munsters you can relate to & connect with. They were a working middle class family with typical normal situations & problems. I saw The Munsters in primetime & I had a Munsters lunchbox in 1965. The Addams Family were strange & cooky & fun but lacked any elements of normality unlike The Munsters. The Addams Family was more sophisticated & stuck up & full of themselves which made them hard to relate to & connect with.
The Munsters ruled & is a much better show. -

It's been a while since I've chimed in on this, but I liked
The Munsters
better simply because it was more flagrantly funny. The M's were not without repetitive humor, but the A's thrived on it one ep after another every one they would mention needing Lurch for something and within a few feet would be the hangman's noose they would 'ring' and Lurch would immediately appear and say, "Youuu rangggg?", and there would be that sound and Morticia would say "Ah! the mail's in" and 'Thing' would arise with the mail. Were we supposed to laugh at these
every time
, as the laugh track prompt us?
I suppose it comes down to: do you like satire [Addams Family] or spoof [Munsters]? For me, it's spoof, and therefore
The Munsters. -

As a child, I was never afraid of Herman except when he turned into the hairy monster in the Zombo episode. On the other hand, I couldn't watch The Addams Family very much because Lurch gave me nightmares. He reminds me of today's Slender Man, who I find terrifying to look at as an adult.

I like them both, but The Addams Family was too dependent on the same gags (the tortoise has two heads, that's unusual. We get it), and I never understood why anyone would be so rattled by Gomez playing with his trains.
The Munsters left the house on a regular basis, and didn't rely on catchphrases. -

Nope. Addams Family was a cheap knockoff of the Munsters' jokes. Even on Wednesday they're still ripping them off.
Also, this is a fan board for the Munsters. Nobody cares about your goth Republicans. Take it to their own board.
